UK’s first LGBT+ retirement community to open in Vauxhall in 2021

Tonic will become the UK’s first LGBT+ affirming retirement community after securing a £5.7m loan from the Mayor of London.

This support from the GLA Community Housing Fund will enable the purchase of 19 properties at Bankhouse, a One Housing older living scheme in Vauxhall, Lambeth.

Tonic Housing will become the UK’s first provider of LGBT+ affirmative housing, with sales for 1 and 2 bedroom shared ownership homes due to begin later this spring. This is a major milestone for LGBT+ housing as there is no LGBT+ affirming provision with care currently in operation in the UK, despite there being a clearly defined need and demand from within the LGBT+ community.

Tonic@Bankhouse will create a unique offering of housing with care that celebrates LGBT+ identities with the community at the very heart of their homes. We will co-create events and activities with residents based on their interests, including collaborations with other LGBT+ organisations and support providers.

Bankhouse was designed by world-renowned architect Norman Foster, and consists of high-quality one and two-bedroom homes, with an on-site restaurant, beautiful community space overlooking the river Thames, a floating garden and a roof terrace with stunning views of central London.
